SILK WORKS: Textile Collage Workshop with Peg Gignoux
July 12-20, 2010 | $2,500, 9 day workshop
We will explore
and record translucence and luster using silks of many weights
and hues. Participants will hand dye silk thread, lengths
of organza, habotai and doupioni creating a vivid collection of shimmering
silks. Using the magnificent chateau setting as inspiration, participants
will be encouraged to step into the fields, gardens, attics and formal rooms
to observe the transcendent summer light, record intriguing textures and
ancient marks. We will assemble a journal of quick sketches and digital
photographs that will serve as the foundation for expressive textile collages.
We will “paint” in cloth creating complex colors by layering and blending
silks and explore innovative ways to work hand and machine stitches into
the surface of each composition.
